Food and Wine Classic

The Aspen Food and Wine Classic was established in 1983.  Since then it has become an international phenomenon, a super-sized weekend for more than 5,000 foodies and wine conesuers.  F & W was "sold out" months in advance, as it is every year.   The universe's top chef's give cooking demo's and the spirits are FLOWING---and flowing big time.  The 26th Annual Food and Wine Classic was "perhaps, the best ever" said one tight lipped NYC P.R. flak.

Aspen Spin estimates the economic impact of the weekend (travel, lodging, retail sales, food and beverage, cost of goods, staffing, sponsorship dollars, media, security, site prep/clean up, "green-ability"etc.) to be over $50,000,000.  Is that possible?  You do the math.  Our calls to American Express, publisher of Food and Wine were not returned at press time.

All we gotta say 'bout dat...is this.   American Express---hello? McFly?  what are you thinking?  D'oh?---it's a 1637062-1655545-thumbnail.jpg

little thing called THE INTERNET???  Start flashing that "big blue box" on AspenSpin.com.   Everybody else is doing it.

Oh yeah, did we mention that Aspen Mountain was open for skiing too.  Just another weekend in paradise.

Marriage made in Aspen

Things just keep getting siiiick-er and siiick-er for AspenSpin.com.

Yes, same-sex marriage is now legal in Calif.  Yessss we looked into all the tax and insurance loop-holes, and pool.jpgnoooooo the rumors of Andy Party's nuptials are false.  Unless canine/human bonds become recognized in the eyes of the State, we're staying single (and straight).  Carmelo, however has been approved as a full-time service dog.  We're oh-so proud of her.

In terms of UGC---user generated content, we're makin' our move.  We've been dialogue-ing with some major playas in the social networking world---FaceBook, My Space, Google, etc.  and we're getting warm.  The Spin is getting Spun.  So y'all keep on clickin'....   Late.

Summer Conditions

DATE:  JUNE 11, 2008.  CURRENT WEATHER/81611-----SNOW.

AJAX will be open for riding this weekend (see below).

Aspen Spin is still in SKI-HAB (bogus).

The cat is now out of the bag.  Aspen Spin is under medical supervision in Cali.  We're still spinning it.  Diagnosis:  To many turns, and to much POW over a prolonged period.  Prognosis: Excellent, but patient needs plenty of rest and repeated ocean exposure.

During Ski-Hab, A-Spin is taking our "tech-engine" to the next level (we hope).   User Generated Content is all the rage, and we've got some for you.   Some of Aspen's finest have supplied us with photos from the Chili Pepper and Brew Fest in Snowmass.  Manolo Anderson, Dina Bloom, Jordan Curet, Matty O and Jack Winton contributed their KICK A$PEN images to A-Spin.  Show them the love.

See their pix @ Chili+Beer=Jam .

Food, Wine & Ski this weekend----we want your pix.

BIG Monday

Freshies in JUNE on AJAX.
Two huge announcements hit the tape today.  A-Spin was on top of both of them early.

Aspen Mountain, aka, AJAX is opening up for Summer Skiing.  June 13-15, 2008.  "If you've got it, ski it" said Ski Co's operations czar, Rich Burkley as he joked about  the "early summer" conditions.  Be advised tickets are not free, even for pass-holders, so bring some cash.  The "foodies" probably won't be ridin' those days, but we predict a long line anyway.  Locals and pass-holders should take care of their ticketing early.   The window opens on Thursday June 12. Click Aspen/Snowmass for the details.

A-Spin's tech staff attended the Apple WWDC 08 in SF.  We were excited to cover the story.  But we were under whelmed by Apple's presentation , and apparently so was Wall St.  In a nut-shell, on July 11, consumers 1637062-1634394-thumbnail.jpg
Jobs Spins it.
will get a newer, cheaper more powerful I-Phone. The new 8GB models are priced at $199. $299 for 16 GB.   ATT will be raising their service fees too.   Techno- philes and first adapters have nothing to really get excited about---except maybe longer battery life.   The lower price should stimulate demand for the touch screen phones, but where were all the bells and whistles?   We expected more from AAPL.

We've been considering a company-wide switch to Apple lappies and phones.  But after today, we're not so sure the perceived brain damage is worth the switch.
